Rangers Next After NC's Split at Tyler

Rangers Next After NC's Split at Tyler

(UPDATED)

Navarro Softball, coming off its split Saturday with Tyler at Bullard, now will be idle until next Monday when the Kilgore Rangers come to Corsicana.

The Bulldogs (10-10/4-2) had been scheduled Wednesday to host the Paris Dragons, but the conference doubleheader was postponed Tuesday and shifted to May 1.

Barring any last-minute, non-conference schedule adds, coach Jessica Karenke-Burke's team will continue to work out and turn its attention to interim head coach Trish Robinson's Lady Rangers.

Navarro currently sports a .319 team batting average, a .388 on-base percentage, and starting pitching that's logged nine complete games.

Catcher Maddie Wright (.446) and outfielder Harley Davis (.432) lead among seven players with batting averages over .340. Wright has eight stolen bases to lead a Navarro club that's 39-of-42 in base stealing through 20 games this season.

First baseman Tatum Briggs (4-15, .390) and shortstop London Reue (3-12, .340, with six steals) are top power sources for the Bulldogs, which have 12 home runs among 40 extra-base hits this season.

In the circle, Navarro counts on righthanders Braylee Forse and Brooklynn Swacker

Forse (7-2, 3.07) has six complete games -- three in succession.  She's struck out 64 in 57 innings of work, with high-games of 13 against Blinn and 12 against Northeast Texas in league play.

Swacker (3-5, 4.89) owns three complete games in 48 innings of work and has struck out 45.  She struck out a combined 16 in recent appearances against Hill and Northeast Texas.

On Monday, Robinson's Rangers venture here in search of breaking an 11-game losing streak.  Kilgore (5-16-1/0-6) has been run-ruled in four of its last five games.  Wednesday, KC dropped 12-1 and 18-0 games to Bossier Parish.

Last Saturday at Schwab Field at The Brook Hill School in Bullard, Navarro and Tyler split shutouts.  The Bulldogs claimed Game 1 by a 2-0 score, while the Apache Ladies struck for an 8-0 run-ruled, second-game win.

Forse threw 127 pitches and struck out five.  She outdueled Tyler's Emile Hoelscher, who threw 95 pitches in a routegoing performance, yielding three hits and two runs while striking out six.

GAME 2:  Tyler 8, Navarro 0

Ryleigh Denton and Grason Long combined on a three-hit shutout for the Apache Ladies.  TJC tallied five first-inning runs.
