East Zone leader Navarro, fresh off a Saturday sweep of Tyler, hosts third-ranked McLennan Monday at Perry D. Graham Field before second-round zone play resumes Wednesday.
Coach Whoa Dill's Bulldogs (18-7) and Tyler Johnson's McLennan Highlanders (13-5) will play a nine-inning, non-conference game here at 1 pm Monday. The game originally was scheduled at Bosque River Ballpark, but was switched to Corsicana after the entire opening weekend series was moved to Waco.
McLennan hasn't played since March 6 when San Jacinto's 9-8, 10-inning win broke a five-game Highlander winning streak. Monday's game here will mark MCC's last non-conference contest before Region V Northern Texas Junior College Athletic Conference play begins with a four-game, home-and-home series with Weatherford cranks up Wednesday.
Navarro, winner of 10 of its last 13 games, seized East Zone leadership from Tyler here Saturday with a 2-0, 6-5 sweep of the Apaches.
In Saturday's seven-inning opener, righthander Austin Eaton (4-0) hurled a complete-game, four-hut shutout and accounted for two of the Bulldogs' five hits. First baseman Matt Houston and catcher Kaden Koerbacher singled home fourth-inning runs and Eaton made them stand up for the win.
In Game 2, leftfielder Bryce Jones' bases-loaded sacrifice fly enabled Xavien Thompson to score the winning run from third as the Bulldogs rallied in their final at-bat.
Righthander Caden Greanead (3-2), Navarro's fourth pitcher, worked two perfect innings with two strikeouts to gain credit for the pitching victory. Greanead followed starter Anthony Garcia, Carlos Garcia and Tristan Wittau on the mound.
The Bulldogs overcame Tyler leads of 2-0 in the fourth and 5-2 in the eighth.
Eaton, Koerbacher and designated hitter Wesley Jordan pounded doubles to pace Navarro's eight-hit attack.
Jordan, now hitting .352, leads the ballclub in home runs with 10. His 31 hits in 25 games include 21 extra-base hits.
Navarro's second-round zone play resumes Wednesday at Carthage when the Bulldogs draw Panola for a doubleheader at the newly refurbished and turfed Jim Reeves Memorial Field.
The MCC game Monday and Wednesday's doubleheader against Panola at Carthage will be streamed live on The Sports Broadcasting Network tsbnsports.com
