Eaton Earns NJCAA 2nd Team All-American

Eaton Earns NJCAA 2nd Team All-American

By  MIKE MONTFORT

Region XIV Pitcher Of The Year Austin Eaton from Navarro has been selected as a 2023 NJCAA Second-Team All-American.

Eaton becomes the 18th Navarro Bulldog since the 1992 season to earn NJCAA All-American honors, and the first since 2019 when shortstop Cash Rugely was chosen as a third-teamer.

Curiously, Eaton is Navarro baseball's second second-team All-American, the first since pitcher Jimmy Hooper in 1996.

Eaton is one of only three Region XIV players to earn NJCAA post-season accolades. Player of the Year Tanner Reaves, who led Blinn to the Alpine Bank-JUCO World Series, earned first-team honors. Alvin College lefthanded pitcher Oscar Cuello claimed honorable mention.

Eaton, a Texas State commitment, led the Bulldogs offensively in runs scored (53) and walks (29), and topped five pitching categories – wins (11), complete games (6), inning pitched (69), starter earned-run average (2.12) and was second in strikeouts (69).
