Tre's TDs Three Ways Spark Blue Dragons, 42-6

BY MIKE MONTFORT

Tre Richardson scored touchdowns three different wats and amassed 268 all-purpose yards Saturday as second-ranked Hutchinson opened the 2023 football season with a 42-6 win over 11th-ranked Navarro.

Richardson caught a 57-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Samari Collier with 1:34 left before half to give the Blue Dragons a 14-3 lead.  After Navarro chewed up the first eight minutes of the second half and settled for Eric Acosta's second 31-yard field goal, Richardson returned the ensuing kickoff 92 yards for a touchdown that put the disillusioned Bulldogs behind, 21-6.  He added a 32-yard, fourth-quarter touchdown.

Richardson, a 5A Special Teams Player of the Year from Highland Park, Ks., totaled 117 kickoff return yards and 56 more in punt returns.

Navarro managed 228 yards offense, but was limited to the two Acosta field goals.  Sophomore quarterback Dane Jentsch completed 15-of-36 passes for 144 yards and ran 15 times for 60 yards to account for most the Bulldogs' total.
