'Dogs Survive 4-OT Foulfest, FT Contest Against Richland

Navarro and Dallas College-Richland played a four-overtime game that lasted almost three hours  Friday, featuring a combined 72 personal fouls that resulted in 71-of-105 free throws and contributed to the Bulldogs' 101-98 victory at The Wolens Special Events Center.

Coach Grant McMillan's Bulldogs improved to 5-3, and announced that Monday's non-conference game against Hill at The Bob Bullock Sports Center in Hillsboro had been postponed until December 11 because the scoreboard exploded.

That couldn'r have happened Friday in Corsicana with the slow-drip water torture of watching a free-throw shooting contest, counting 71 single points against a stopped clock.

Regulation ended in a tie at 72 as Richland successfully overcame a 43-34 halftime deficit and scored the final seven points inside 1:49 to spawn extra-period insanity.  Other ties occurred at 82, 88 and 94

The so-called basketball game resulted in six player disqualifications – five from Navarro – and three other player finished the contest with four fouls apiece.

Navarro sank 40-of-54 free throws from 34 Thunderduck fouls; Richland hit 31-of-52 charity shots from 38 Navarro infractions.

For Navarro, four players had double-doubles:  freshman Antroine Lorick came off the bench with 24 points and 11 rebounds, followed by sophomore guard Colby Henderson (20/10), freshman Ronnie Harrison (19/16) and sophomore Traw Clayton (18/14)

The Thunderducks, outrebounded 63-26, placed four in double-figure scoring:  Barrack Holland came off the bech with a team-high 20, followed by Elijah Brown (16), Jamille Barnett (15), and Travin Washington (14).
