Navarro climbed into a second-place tie with Trinity Valley in Region XIV East Zone softball after Thursday's sweep of the Northeast Texas Eagles.
With wins of 8-3 and 9-1, coach Jessica Karenke-Burke's Bulldogs (9-9/3-1) got complete-game performances in the circle from Braylee Forse and Brooklynn Swacker, made efficient use of 18 hits, stole seven bases and fashioned two six-run innings.
Northeast, playing four of its first five March doubleheaders on the road, suffered its sixth consecutive loss during a winless league season and fell to 8-13 overall.
In Game 1, Forse (5-2) struck out 12 batters during a 114-pitch effort and scattered eight hits while completing her fifth game in the circle. In the late game, Swacker (3-4) surrendered only two hits and struck out nine in a 77-pitch outing that was shortened by the run-rule.
GAME 1: Navarro 8, Northeast 3
Tatum Briggs slugged a three-run homer during a six-run third inning that included singles from Jenna Rude, Alanna Islas, London Reue and Harley Davis. Islas went three-for-three at the plate to spearhead NC's 10-hit attack.
In the fourth, Bayja Newby's two-out, bases-loaded walk scored Davis from third base and gave NC its eighth run.
GAME 2: Navarro 9, Northeast 1 (5)
Maddie Wright went 2-for-2 and knocked in a pair of runs, Faith Fernandez hit a two-run single, and Callie Waller hit her first home run.
Navarro went to work early again as Islas' first-inning single to centerfield brought home Wright, who doubled and advanced to third base on Rude's sacrifice bunt. The Bulldogs sent 12 batters to the plate against NTCC starter Averie Ayers in the second inning and added six runs. Run-scoring singles by Wright, Fernandez and Jordyne Reese's infield hit pushed NC's lead to 7-0.
Waller socked her first home run after a passed ball earlier in her at-bat enabled Kaitlynn Woodlee to cross for an 8-1 advantage.
