'Dawgs Belt Ranger Twice in Season Opener

RANGER -- Navarro Softball successfully started its 2021 season with a sweep of the Ranger Lady Rangers Wednesday at Ron Butler Field.

Coach Jessica Karenke-Burke's Bulldogs registered wins of 9-4 and 11-2.  The Bulldogs battered Ranger pitching for 28 hits during the doubleheader.  NC belted nine extra-base hits on the afternoon.

GAME 1 FINAL -- NAVARRO 9, RANGER 4

Alanna Islas and Abby Willis drove in two runs apiece and Navarro used a two-out, six-run rally in the fourth inning to defeat Ranger, 9-4, in Game 1.

Winning pitcher Brooklyn Swacker went six-and-one-third innings and Kaitlynn Woodlee struck out the final two batters.

NC's fourth-inning rally featured singles by Harley Davis and Faith Fernandez, plus doubles by Jenna Rude and London Reue.

GAME 2 FINAL -- NAVARRO 11, RANGER 2 (5 Innings)

London Reue homered twice and drove in six runs and the Bulldogs unleashed a 15-hit attack in the run-ruled nightcap to complete the sweep.

Alanna Islas went 4-for-4 and scored a run in the second game, and Tatum Briggs followed her in the batting order with 3-for-3 at the plate, two runs and an RBI.

Winning pitcher Braylee Forse scattered nine hits, walked nine and struck out two while going the shortened distance.  She threw 69 pitches in the outing, 49 for strikes.  She settled into control after Ranger scored its only runs on back-to-back, second-inning home runs by Everly Carey and Mariah Mayuga.
