CORSICANA, TX- The Navarro College Volleyball team looks ahead to Lee College after a tough four set loss to Tyler Junior College (#10).
The crowd was all in red last night, September 14th, with The Navarro College Band and NC Cheer Team getting fans on their feet as the Bulldogs (4-5) took the first set (27-25) against the Apaches (5-4). Tyler Junior College came back to take the last three sets (17-25,20-25,25-27). This was the Dawgs first competition back since The Wrangler Classic in Odessa, TX. Navarro executed well with sophomore middle blocker, Wiktoria Warpechowska, hitting .444 on the night and sophomore opposite, Ana Beatriz Nunes Dos Santos, leading the pack with twelve kills and a .206 hitting clip. Freshman setter, Eline Fieremans, came out with 34 assists and 12 digs for her first double-double of Region XIV conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Set
Bulldogs rally from 16-10 deficit to win the 1st game that was tied 8 times. Outstanding performances from sophomore opposite,Ana Beatriz Nunes Dos Santos led with five kills on eight attempts hitting .375. Three players earned four points in the set, sophomores Lauren Tishkoff and Wiktoria Warpechowska along with freshman Tjasa Malnar.
Second Set
The Dawgs dug themselves in a hole and managed dig out of a ten point deficit after dropping to 11-1. They ended up dropping this set 17-25 to the Apaches. Ana Beatriz Nunes Dos Santos continued to lead the Dawgs with four kills.
Third Set
Sophmore outside, Lauren Tishkoff, came out big in the third set to lead with five kills on twelve attempts clipping a .417 hitting percentage.
Fourth Set
Navarro dropped a tough set 25-27, after the score was flipped multiple times with Navarro and Tyler leading throughout the set. Freshman setter, Eline Fieremans, spread the offense out evenly with multiple players contributing nicely.
UP NEXT
NC will travel to Lee College (14-7) in Baytown, TX on Thursday, September 16th for the second conference match of the season for the Dawgs.
This will be the first meeting in two seasons for the Dawgs and the Lady Rebels. Lee College did not participate in the 2020 season due to Covid-19.
