
CORSICANA, TX- The Bulldogs (6-5) won a five set thriller against Hill College (2-8) this past Saturday in Hillsboro, TX.
The Dawgs competed against the Lady Rebels on Saturday night and walked away successful in a five set thriller match (22-25, 25-22, 21-25, 25-15, 15-8). Navarro was on a roller coaster of sets with the Lady Rebels and the Dawgs duking it out. Hill narrowly took the first set after trailing behind until the score was tied at 20-20. NC responded with locking down the second set and back and fourth they went before NC finished the fifth set coming out victorious.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Set
Navarro took an early lead and kept a three point distance until Hill tied the score 20-20. Two tips from Hill put the Lady Rebels ahead and with a missed serve from NC the Lady Rebels had the set. Freshman outside, Tjasa Malnar, led the Dawgs with three kills on five attempts hitting .600, along with two blocks.
Second Set
Hill started a 3-0 run against Navarro before NC made a run of their own. Back-to-back double blocks by Tjasa Malnar and sophomore middle blocker, Wiktoria Warpechowska, forced a timeout by Hill. Wiktoria Warpechowska finished the set for Navarro with an ace.
Third Set
The third set put a fire under both teams as they battled for the lead. The longest rally of the night came mid-way through the set, with both teams playing :34 seconds for the point. NC took the point off a double by Hill College, forcing them into a timeout. Back-to-back kills by middle blocker, Wiktoria Warpechowska, gave NC the push to battle. Hill came away with the set win after a Navarro hitting error.
Fourth Set
Navarro started on a 3-0 run off of freshman libero, Alessia Sonzinis', two service aces. The Dawgs took off leading 6-1 in the early start of the set. Another 3-0 run put a good distance between the Dawgs and the Lady Rebels before NC had a set finishing kill by Tjasa Malnar.
Fifth Set
Hill came out of the gate with two back to back points on attacks before Navarro responded with three service aces by Alessia Sonzini putting Navarro up 3-2 in the short set. Hill called a timeout to regain control before two service errors put the ball back in Navarro's favor. Big momentum came when freshman defensive speicalist, Lilouann Bechec, had a dig and an ace to put the Dawgs in the lead. NC closed out the set and match with a win.
UP NEXT
The Dawgs (1-1) will take on conference opponent Trinity Valley Community College (3-3) at home in the SEC at 6 PM CST.
