DAWGS SWEEP PIONEERS, PREPARE FOR BLINN

CORSICANA, TX- Navarro College Volleyball (4-1) swept conference opponent Wharton County Junior College(3-4), Tuesday night, with scores of 25-23, 25-13,25-19. 
 
Navarro College Volleyball travelled to Wharton, TX to take on their fifth Region XIV conference matchup of the season. This was the first meeting for the Dawgs and Pioneers of the 2021-2022 season. The three sets saw a lot of ties and large runs of points for both NC and Wharton CJC. 

 

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Set   
The first set saw approximately ten ties between the Dawgs and Pioneers. A lot of back and forth offense between the two teams before a defensive block by Sophomore opposite, Ana Beatriz Nunes Dos Santos, and freshman middle blocker, Nia Mack helped push the Dawgs to a small lead. Followed by an ace by freshman setter, Eline Fieremans, the Dawgs would lead 15-13. Wharton came back with offensive plays of their own to overtake the Dawgs forcing a timeout by NC trailing 17-20. Coming out of the timeout, sophomore middle blocker Wiktoria Warpechowska, put down a kill to lesson the Pioneers lead by 2. Missed serves plagued both teams and allowed NC to trail 20-22. A kill by sophomore opposite, Bia Nunes, would help kick start a 4-0 run for the Dawgs and a block by middle, Nia Mack, and sophomore outside, Lauren Tishkoff, would end the first set 25-23. 
 
Second Set
Navarro College tied up early at 3-3 with the Pioneers before breaking away on a 4-0 run to up the score to 7-3. Wharton County JC would take their first timeout of the set. The Dawgs kept pushing further ahead getting another lead at 15-9 before Wharton County JC took their second and final timeout of the set. NC outscored the Pioneers 10-4 and finished the set 25-13. 

 
Third Set
NC made an early head start going up 3-0 before the Pioneers would go on a 4-0 run with Navarro errors. Wharton took the lead 6-4 forcing a Navarro timeout. Sophomore opposite, Bia Nunes, got a kill to tie it up at 7-7. Three more ties would ensue before an ace by freshman outside, Maria Eduarda Dudao, put the Dawgs ahead 12-10. Wharton would take their two timeouts trailing the Dawgs at 14-10 and 21-18. Another ace by Maria Eduarda Dudao would close out the final set for the Dawgs, 25-19.

The Dawgs (4-1) will take on nationally ranked conference opponent(#3) Blinn College (7-0) on Thursday, Sept. 30th, in Brenham, TX.
