DAWGS TAKE DOWN PIONEERS, PREPARE FOR TRI-MATCH

CORSICANA, TX- The Navarro College Volleyball program (11-5) beat Wharton County Junior College (7-9) at home for sophomore night. The Bulldogs won in four sets against the Pioneers (25-23, 26-24, 23-25, 25-16).  

 

vs WHARTON COUNTY JUNIOR COLLEGE:

First Set   
The fight was for the Dawgs and Pioneers with the Dawgs ahead by one point to start the set at 5-4. NC took their first timeout after being down by three at 9-12. An ace by freshman setter, Eline Fieremans, helped the Dawgs tie the match at 12-12. Another tie would ensue at 12-12 before freshman outside hitter, Tjasa Malnar, pulled the Dawgs ahead with a kill. The Pioneers took their first timeout at 17-14. Back and forth rallies would continue until a late set tie at 21-21. Sophomore middle blocker, Wiktoria Warpechowska, gave the Dawgs the edge with back-to-back aces. A later set timeout at 24-23 by the Dawgs would help them take the set as the Pioneers served into the net. 
 
Second Set
Freshman setter, Eline Fieremans, would gather two more aces early in the set to give the Dawgs a 5-2 advantage. A hard driven dig by freshman defensive specialist, Lilouann Bechec, would help the Dawgs gather momentum at 14-10. The Dawgs would continue with the lead before the Pioneers took a timeout at 22-18. A 3-0 run for the Pioneers forced an NC timeout at 22-21. A kill by sophomore opposite, Ana Beatriz Nunes Dos Santos, helped the Dawgs on a 3-0 run along with a kill by Wiktoria Warpechowska and an ace by Tjasa Malnar

Third Set
The Dawgs started down at 4-7 before taking their first timeout at 7-9. They would fight to tie the Pioneers at 12 a piece before the Pioneers went on a 1-4 run against the Dawgs. NC would climb back in within two points at 20-22 before the first timeout for the Pioneers. An hitting error by NC would give the set to the Pioneers. 

Fourth Set
Freshman libero, Alessia Sonzini, went on a 7-0 run with two aces to start the final set. The Dawgs would keep the lead with the highest point differential at 14-5. A kill by freshman middle blocker, Nia Mack, along with a couple blocks gave the Dawgs a hefty lead before the Pioneers took a timeout at 19-10. A kill by sophomore outside, Lauren Tishkoff, would finisht the set and give the match to Navarro.  

 

UP NEXT: TRI-MATCH

The Navarro College Volleyball team will travel to Cisco College for a tri-match against the host, Cisco College, and Cowley College. Match times at set at 1 PM and 3 PM CST.
